AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

BROWS:

Leave them be! Here at Pink Ink Co, we believe in what is called the "dry method" of healing.  Wash once per day with a gentle cleanser.  Do not use baby soap.  Use an gentle adult facial cleanser with no perfumes, acids, or exfoliants.  Be sure to leave no soap or cleansing product behind and then blot to dry. No need to put anything else on them for several days. The risk of adding ointment can cause infection, make non-breathable areas, and can trap dirt and germs. Avoid ointment, lotion, and creams, for one week after your appointment.  The eyebrows will be going through a healing process that looks somewhat alarming.  THIS IS NORMAL!  Don't panic! Trust the process.  Of course, prior to touching any area of your face, wash hands first.

What to expect:

  • Day 1-tender and a bit sore.  You may blot the excess oil using a dry, clean, soft tissue to absorb any oils.  The oil produced naturally by your skin is expected.  It's plasma that is showing on your skin as oil.  This is a good thing as it promotes healing and you may blot it off gently.
  • Day 2-starting to feel dry and may be a bit tender.  They will look REALLY dark, but don't fret!  When I say dark, I mean DARK. This is normal. I promise you the pigment will heal beautifully!  It's dark for only a few days.  Trust the process, they will fade!
  • Day 3-4still really dark, but starting to itch.  This means your skin is healing! DO NOT PICK or SCRATCH them.  You will be tempted to but do not pull, scrub, pick, or itch off any of the area where pigment was placed. If you do this, it can cause loss of pigment.  If you pick off the healing areas, it will be obvious and could cause some discoloration.  It's not worth the risk!
  • Day 4 to 7-expect peeling.  Whatever you do, DO NOT PICK!  You could lose pigment. Your skin will naturally peel and fall off in sections.  This  is totally normal.  Expect to see what looks like missing pigment, it's not really missing. You will probably panic a little bit, but remember, it only LOOKS like it's missing.  It's under there, just trust the process.
  • Day 8-start putting lotion on them, it will feel really good! Use a gentle face lotion with no exfoliates, perfumes, or acid. You will notice that they are starting to look much lighter.  You might think that the procedure did nothing, but just be patient and the pigment will reappear like magic!  The pigment is under the freshly healed skin and this phase is considered the milky phase of healing.  It will look milky, but they will come back and be beautiful!
  • No sweating or hot exercise for one full week after the procedure.  This can cause loss of pigment.
  • Avoid swimming in pools or open water for 2 weeks due to potential for infection.
  • Do not do any botox, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or other harsh chemicals on your brows for 4 weeks.
  • Now that you've gone on the roller coaster of a ride with your eyebrows, ENJOY THEM!!!  Enjoy your soft, beautifully done, perfect eyebrows!

LIPS:

Aftercare ointment will be provided to help ensure the soft tissue of the lips are tended to properly while healing.  Lip tissue is much different than skin.  Expect swelling to occur.  You may apply ice to help with the swelling, but be sure to keep them moisturized with the provided ointment often.  You'll see why moisture is important for healing this area.  Swelling should reside from the first day to 48 hours after the procedure is completed. Avoid hot fluids like coffee, soup, and anything with steam. Try to use a straw when drinking fluids. Your lips will be tender!  Avoid physical contact with lips for up to 7 days to promote the best healing.   Do NOT scrub the lips with an exfoliant until completely healed which should take about 2-4 weeks depending on the way your body heals "injury" to the skin. The lips will be going through a healing process that looks somewhat alarming.  THIS IS NORMAL!  Don't panic! Trust the process.  Of course, prior to touching any area of your face, wash hands first.

  • Day 1-Lips will be dark!  When I say dark, I mean DARK.  They will look like you have applied a lipstick, but rest assured, they will be much softer when they are done healing.  Expect some swelling.
  • Day 2-Expect to start feeling some dryness.  Apply ointment often, you'll thank me later for this suggestion. Swelling should start to go down and be back to mostly normal by the end of day 2.
  • Day 3-5-Your lips will feel really tight and start to peal.  DO NOT pick at any of the pealing.  You run the risk of causing bleeding, losing pigment, or causing scarring.  You will be alarmed at what seems to be sheets of dry lip peeling coming off your lips.  As much as you are tempted to take off the peeling, DO NOT DO THAT! Don't forget to hydrate your body with water, this helps!
  • Day 5-8-After peeling has stopped, you will notice that it looks like most of the pigment has gone away.  You may even start to wonder why you went through this procedure at all.  Don't worry, it comes back within a day or 2!  Trust the process.
  • Day 10-Lips will start to feel normal again!  You've made it!
  • Don't forget to be applying your provided ointment often, it will feel great to keep them as refreshed as you can, especially during the process of peeling!
  • Now that you've gone through some turbulence, you've made it to the other side!  ENJOY THEM!!! Enjoy your soft, luscious, beautiful lip color!
